Following the resignation of the Zimbabwean leader, Robert Mugabe, which sparked widespread jibilations amongst Zimbabweans yesterday, the nation is set to swear in 75-year-old Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe’s former vice president, as its new leader.
The move by Zimbabwe comes after the former Vice President who was sacked by Mugabe was announced as the new Zanu-PF leader.
Mnangagwa has been reported to be a popular stronghold amongst the powerful War Veterans group and the Zimbabwean military chiefs.
Mugabe sacked him 13 days after he was accused of disloyalty and insubordination, a move which was reported to be part of Mugabe’s plan to pave way for his wife, Grace.
Mnangagwa is expected to oversee the next democratic election in the country next year.
