Nigeria’s U-23 buildup to the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil was rife with woes.
First, the team were left stranded in Atlanta, USA, with many players complaining of not being fed for three days. They eventually arrived Rio, the venue of Olympics barley few hours before the match began – thanks to an intervention by Delta Airlines.
Finally, when it was time for national anthems, another country’s anthem was played for Team Nigeria as the players looked too stunned to express their outrage.

The 2016 Olympic organizers have since apologized over the disgraceful event, however, Nigeria defeated Japan to win the game 5 – 4.
