Team Nigeria’s men’s football team were left stranded in Atlanta USA, hours before their kickoff against Japan in Rio, Brazil’s 2016 Olympics. It took the intervention of Delta Airlines who provided a plane to fly the Eagles to their match venue barley few hours before their game began.
Sports minister Solomon Dalung who celebrated with the Eagles over their 1 – 0 defeat of Sweden this morning, has tendered an unreserved apology to the team and their management.
“I want to apologize for all the circumstances that led to your late arrival here. I apologize because I am the head and as such I must take responsibility for anything that happens under my watch.
“Nigeria’s football team in the early hours of today defeated Sweden (1-0) and qualified for the quarterfinals of the Olympic games football event.”
