South Sudan Sacks Finance Minister, Blacklists Senior Military Official

The South Sudan President, Salva Kiir, has reportedly sacked the nation’s Finance Minister and further placed a senior military official on U.N. blacklist.

The latest development was broadcasted on the state radio late on Monday night.

However, the statement gave no reason as to why the President decided to fire the nation’s Finance Minister Stephen Dhieu Dau and replace him with Salvatore Garang Mabiordit, from Kiir’s northern home area of Warrap.

The military official, Lieutenant General Marial Chanuang Yol Mangok, was dismissed from his office as the post as the Assistant Chief of Defence forces.

Mangok was added to the U.N. Security blacklist for “fueling the ongoing conflict and contributing to the devastating humanitarian crisis” in South Sudan in 2015.
