Gambian’s big brother, Senegal, has given an ultimatum for defeated incumbent president, Yahya Jammeh, to step down and allow the winner of the December general elections, Adama Borrow, to be installed as leader.
Senegal says its ready to force out Jammeh with military power once the 51-year-old does not step down before 19th January 2017, the day billed for Barrow’s inauguration.
According to a statement by Senegalese army spokesman Colonel Abdou Ndiaye,
“Our troops are on alert… The ultimatum takes effect at midnight.
“If a political solution fails, we will engage.”
