A firefighter who battled to save 275 passengers and 25 crew of the crash-landed Emirates Airline flight yesterday has died. After rescuing the victims, Jasim Issa Mohammed Hassan was putting out flames on the plane when the burning aircraft exploded, killing him.
Airport authorities say that the ill-fated flight was about landing normally but the front wheel of the plane collapsed as soon it touched the ground, causing the plane to hit the ground at full force while making screeching sounds as the body scrapped off the tarred landing lane.
United Arab Emirates’ General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said in a statement:
“We are grateful to God for his mercy and confirm that there were no fatalities among the passengers and crew on board.
“We are however, very sad to announce that one of the firefighters lost his life while saving the lives of the others.
“On behalf of the General Civil Aviation Authority, I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to the family of deceased. I salute his ultimate sacrifice that kept many from harm’s way.
|Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
