The Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, NBC, has slammed a Not-To-Be-Broadcast, NTTB, warning on the latest single released by Nigerian singer, Olamide.
The latest single, ‘Science Student’ has since its release created a wide range of controversy online as several persons have described the song as one aimed at promotion of drug abuse in the society.
In view of the controversy created by the latest single, the NBC through its Head of Public Affairs, Hajia Maimuna Jihada, stated that the song has indeed been banned.
She added that the single, ‘Science Students’, has not been out-rightly banned but prohibited from being played on local stations for public consumption.
The NBC official said: “NBC does not ban music. Our mandate is on what goes on Radio and TV. Olamide’s Science Student has been declared ‘Unfit for broadcast’.
She proceeded to mention that the song’s subtle promotion of illegal drugs was the main reason for declaring it unlawful.
She further warned against the broadcasting of the songs by “all broadcasting houses,” stating that the NBC has “communicated all our licensees for compliance or they will face sanctions.”
