A 51-year-old Nigerian mother of three identified as Jadesola Agbalade has pleaded guilty to the crime of distributing child pornography.
The Nigerian woman was reported to have forwarded a child pornography clip which showed a child being raped, as heard by a court in Dublin.
Jadesola was reported to have pleaded guilty to the one count charge leveled against her and bordering on the knowingly distribution of child pornography on July 20, 2016.
The prosecuting counsel, Gardaí Enda Ledwith told Karl Finnegan BL, that he arrested a man in Dublin Airport in July 2017 in relation to credit card fraud.
He added that the man’s phone upon search contained child pornography which was discovered to have been distributed by the Nigerian woman.
The children in the clips were reported to be between the ages of two and five.
Gardaí upon further investigation discovered it is an international clip that has been in circulation since about 2014.
He further traced the phone number from which the clip was sent back to Agbalade, who was called and agreed to meet at Blanchardstown shopping centre. She was reported to have handed over her phone to Gardaí and admitted to receiving the child pornography clip and sending it on.
Agbalade further revealed she forwarded the clip to her friend with three children in order to warn her “not to leave her children with her boyfriend”.
The said lady who recieved the clip is yet to be identified.
Gda Ledwith during the court proceeding agreed with Michael Bowman SC, the defending counsel, that Agbalade “didn’t understand the enormity of the situation”.
Agbalade told Gardaí during the meet: “I didn’t know it wasn’t right. I’m sorry.”, Mr Bowman told the court it was a “remarkably unusual” case.
Agbalade who was reported to have come to Ireland in 2001 was pronounced a sex offender by the court.
“She will now be a sex offender and as a mother, that is a significant stigma in the community.”
Agbalade “comes to the court absolutely aghast at what she has allowed herself to become involved in,” he added.
Judge Karen O’Connor ordered a probation report and remanded Agbalade on continuing bail.
