Earlier this week, Nigeria’s U17 Eagles were dealt a huge blow after 60 members of the squad were reportedly said to have failed an MRI test put in place by FIFA to ascertain if they were truly under the age of 17.
Not deterred by the outcome of the test, the U17 Eagles today beat their counterparts from Niger Republic in a Madagascar 2017 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers round today. Alagbe Oluwatobiloba scored the lone goal of the match played at Abuja National Stadium.
Assistant coach of the team Nduka Ugbade speaking to journalists said:
The team is a new one and this is their first outing on the continent. They have stayed together for a while and I believe they should win their match against Niger convincingly.
“They have played a couple of friendly matches against local sides and they won some of them while improving on their weak areas. This match will show more what they can do going forward on the continent.”
