45-year-old UK swimmer Nick Thomas has died while trying to cross the English Channel, the body of water that separates southern England from northern France, and joins the southern part of the North Sea to the rest of the Atlantic Ocean.
Nick was swimming for about 16 hours but with only 10 miles to reach the coast of Calais, the veteran diver suffered a cardiac arrest today. He was administered CPR and taken to hospital immediately but died shortly afterwards.
UK endurance swimming governing body, Enduroman, which ranked Nick as number 19 in 2014, released a statement saying:
“Our friend Nick Thomas left us whilst doing what he loved – he just kept going. He’ll always be a part of what we do and who we are.”
