A medical doctor in Kogi State, Nigeria, has reportedly tested positive to Lassa fever.
The victim’s blood was reportedly tested at the Federal Medical Centre, Irrua, Edo State where laboratory analysis showed the victim to be positive to the much dreaded disease.
Confirming the development, the Medical Director of FMC, Dr Olatunde Alabi, while speaking to newsmen on Saturday in Lokoja, said that the male doctor was diagnosed of the disease on Jan. 19.
The victim, Alabi, 30, has since been transferred to Irrua, Kogi state on Saturday for further treatment.
The medical director added that treatment of the medical doctor will come in partnership with bodies including the World Health Organisation (WHO), the state Ministry of Health and other stakeholders.
