Pope Francis I has declared Argentine-born Barcelona star Lionel Messi as the greatest player in the history of football – ahead of football legends Pele and Maradona, who are once widely believed to be the finests to have graced a football field.
The Holy Father replied when asked to name the better player between Maradona and Pele at World Youth Day celebrations in Poland on Sunday July 31 2016.
Reporter: “Who is better, Maradona or Pele?”
Pope: “For me, Messi.”
That definitely makes it a wrap, Cristiano Ronaldo fans.
