Iran Warns Nigeria To Act "Wise" And Release Shiite Leader To Avoid Further Tensions

The Iranian government has urged the Nigerian government not to make matters any worse and release the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh El-Zakzaky.This was made known in a statement by the spokesman of the country’s foreign ministry, Hoseyn Jaberi-Ansari while speaking with reporters in Tehran.

“We have used all those channels to warn them [Nigeria] regarding this issue. So hopefully the government… would adopt wise action given the sensitive situation,” Jaberi-Ansari said.

El-Zakzaky had been arrested with other members of the Shia sect when they had attempted to block a convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai.
