President Muhammadu Buhari thanked outgoing United States president Barack Obama for his assistance to Nigeria in his 8 years of rule when the two leaders met at a bilateral meeting on Tuesday 20 September 2016 in New York. Buhari had attended the United Nation’s 71st General Assembly meeting in the USA.
Obama was quoted telling Buhari during the meeting:
“We have confidence in your leadership. There are some difficulties you face, but this administration is willing to assist in the short time we have left.
“You have made real progress in defeating the brutal organization called Boko Haram, and that was achieved because of your leadership.”
On his own part, Buhari talked about the final decimation of Boko Haram and resolving of the militancy crisis in the oil-blessed Niger Delta region.
“Nigeria is on the road to food self-sufficiency soon. We shall be able to feed ourselves, and utilize the billions of dollars spent on importing food on other productive areas.”
