A police inspector was dispossessed of the cash he withdrew from a commercial bank along Okunola Road in Idimu, Lagos State on Monday 1 August 2016.
An eyewitness account stated that shortly after the robbers who came in motorcycles robbed the policeman, they were apprehended by a patrol team of policemen who killed two of the robbers and arrested the remaining one.
According to another policeman who spoke anonymously:
“They brought the corpses and the suspect to SARS around 1pm. Their bodies were riddled with bullets. The ammunition has also been handed over. The injured police officer was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he is now responding to treatment.
“The surviving robber is undergoing interrogation at SARS. We learnt that the gang had successfully robbed a bank customer before attacking the policeman. That road has already been placed on red alert because it is close to where pipeline vandals do their deals.
“The suspect, Ismail, has been on the wanted list of the command for cases of armed robbery. Items recovered from the gang were two pistols, four live ammunition and one motorcycle.””
