Ikorodu is fast gaining notoriety for frequent violent clashes between cult groups as the Aye and Eiye confraternities attacked and killed members of each group.
The Nation reports that the fight started around 1am during Itunmeko street carnival on Wednesday. It will be recalled that the Lagos State Government and the Police banned street carnivals in December ahead of the yuletide holidays.
According to sources, the trouble started after the Eiye cult group killed two Aye (Black Axe) members who were invited to the carnival as they made their way home. The Aye cult group was said to have taken the fight to Eiye group, in anger, at the wee hours of yesterday, killing three of their members.
Four of the injured have been transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), the other is still at Ikorodu General Hospital.
Another source blamed the Ikorodu Vigilante group for not doing its job, saying:
“The problem is that the Ikorodu Vigilante group has been compromised. They are not doing their job well; that is why these cultists can go on the rampage at odd hours.”
Police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent (SP) said two bodies were recovered.
“We recovered two bodies on Tuesday evening. I am not aware if there were injured persons. But the police have gone all out to get the perpetrators and bring them to justice. More intense patrols are being carried out to forestall any recurrence,” she said.
