Over 1000 tourists and residents were evacuated after a wildfire allegedly started by some youngsters on Sunday night began ravaging buildings and public structions through Monday morning in Spain’s coastal area of Costa Blanca. A group of 15-year-olds have been arrested, eyewitnesses said.
Jose Maria Angel, the head of the Valencian region’s emergency services, told a Spanish radio:
“The hand of man again was involved in a very precise way, choosing the hottest day of the year.”
It’s not yet clear why and who started the fire(s).
BBC journalist Chris Stark who was caught up in the melee tweeted:
“This is crazy. I think my car and maybe my apartment is on fire.”
