FG should stop opening more universities in Nigeria – Nigerian billionaire, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu

Nigerian billionaire, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University of Calabar’s Governing Council, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has advised the Federal Government to stop establishing more universities in the country and instead focus on enhancing the standard of the existing ones.

The Nigerian billionaire while speaking during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Atta Ikeduru, Imo, on Tuesday stated that the Nigerian government, instead of frequently approving new universities should concentrate more on improving standards in the existing ones to produce quality graduates.

Speaking during the interview, Mr. Iwuanyanwu stated that the Nigerian standard of education had dropped when compared with what obtained more than 40 years ago.

He said: “During our days in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, before the outbreak of the civil war, Nigerian universities were rated among the top universities in the world but the situation today is something else.

“Government must do something to change the university system.”
