Nicaragua’s 2016 presidential election is coming up in November and incumbent president Daniel Ortega (70) who is seeking for a third term has unveiled his wife, Rosario Murillo, as his running mate. That means husband and wife will be president and vice president come 2017 if Ortega defeats his opponents – the first of it’s kind in written history.
Daniel Ortega was quoted saying during the unveiling of his running mate on Tuesday August 2 2016:
“We don’t doubt that (the vice presidential candidate) had to be a woman, and who better than the partner who has already been tested with work and proved to be very efficient and disciplined?”
Nicaragua is a Latin American country with a population of over 6 million people and a GDP of $11 billion in 2013.
