A University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus lecturer identified as Dr. Theophilus Akachidelu Udeani, a lecturer with the College of Medicine in the University has been arraigned before the Federal High Court, Enugu, for obtaining the sum of N3,000,000 (Three Million Naira ) under false pretences.
The University lecturer was arraigned before Justice A.M Liman on a one count charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Enugu Zonal Office.
According to the EFCC, the University lecturer reportedly sold two plots of lands which he claimed were part of properties belonging to ASUU at Isiagu Ugwuaji-Awkunanaw, Enugu.
The lands were reportedly sold to a professional colleague on the pretense that the said lands were not encumbered, a claim which turned out to be false.
EFCC’s counsel also before the court revealed that Udeani went further to authenticate his claim by giving the complainant an Irrevocable Power of Attorney and Deed of Assignment for both lands although he failed to take the complainant to the land nor hand over the survey extract of the lands.
Udeani, the Vice Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, UNEC Chapter, however pleaded not guilty before the court following the reading of the charge.
Udeani however informed the court of his mother’s death as he sought to leave the court to attend the burial, a motion which the prosecution counsel, Mike Ani did not object to.
The court therefore granted Udeani his leave and will continue to enjoy his administrative bail which was earlier granted him by EFCC.
Udeani was also granted bail in the sum of N1,000,000 (One Million Naira Only) and one surety in like sum.
The land case has been adjourned to March 28th 2018, for trial.
