Edo Governor, Godwin Obaseki attacked

The Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki has reportedly been attacked in the state.

The report is contained in a statement released by the spokesperson to the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, Robin Crusoe.

The statement further added that the Managing Director of BUA’s Obu Cement Company, Yusuf Binji, has been implicated in the attack and thus declared wanted.

The recent attack on the state governor comes following the recent accusation lodged by Dangote claiming BUA was involved in an illegal mining of minerals on its site located in Okpella, Edo State.

The state government in reaction to the legal battle between the companies ordered work to be stopped on the site on Wednesday with security officials arresting two BUA staff for allegedly continuing work.

However, the statement issued by Mr. Crusoe quoted the police on Thursday to have said that the attack on the governor was sponsored by Mr. Binji.

The statement released reads: “The Nigeria Police have declared the Managing Director of BUA’s Obu Cement Company, Yusuf Binji, wanted over an attack on the convoy of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Also attacked were some officials of the Edo State Government who were on the convoy of the Edo State Governor.

According to the police, the decision to declare Mr. Binji wanted became necessary as it had earlier received intelligence that BUA International Limited is sponsoring militias in Okpella, Edo State, where the company has a cement factory and mine sites.

These militias, the police said, were allegedly sponsored by Binji and his team to attack the convoy of the governor, cause harm and mayhem.”
