United Arab Emirates city Dubai has unveiled its driverless bus service. Test-running of the first fleet of buses which will transport people from place to place without an actual driver began on September 1 2016. The buses were engineered by French group Easy Mile and Dubai-based Omnix.
RTA official Ahmed Bahrozyan told newsmen:
“(The test is) the first and very important stage in our efforts to introduce this type of vehicle into Dubai’s transport network.”
The buses which are powered by an electric system (as against fuel) are expected to go into commercial use by the end of 2016. UAE authorities believe the driverless buses will account for 25% of all transportation in Dubai by 2016.
