Driver killed as robbers attack Delta State Govt House, Warri
A driver was killed in a failed robbery attempt at the Delta State Government House Annex (not to be confused with Government House Complex in state capital Asaba) situated along Warri NPA Expressway in Edjeba, Warri South LGA of Delta State on Thursday 4 August 2016.

Witnesses say a Delta State Waterways Security Committee meeting was taking place in one of the buildings when the incident happened. Reportedly, the victim, a driver at the Annex, was sent to fetch some money from a nearby bank for members of the committee. On his way back, he was attacked by armed robbers who chased him till he drove into the Annex. The robbers ended their pursuit at the gate and were not able to collect the money, however, the driver lost his life due to bullet wounds sustained during the pursuit.

A source said:

“The gunmen reportedly trailed one of our drivers who was sent to cash some money for the Delta State Waterways Security committee who was having a meeting at the Annex.

“We all fled for safety including the security agents because nobody knew what was happening other than sound of gun shots. They entered the Government House with the driver trying to collect the money. We were all afraid.”
