The Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND’s top man, Charles Okah, who is currently been held at the Kuje Prisons was reported to have faked an escape, officials of the prisons report.
The faked escape was reported to have been staged on Thursday night with the prisons officials thrown into panic for over an house after Mr. Charles Okah, could not be found in his cell by warders.
The frantic search for the MEND’s leader which started at about 8:00pm on Thursday night ended when Charles Okah was found to have been lying under his bed.
He was reported to have dropped a dummy on his bed to fool the warders while he carried out his plan which was said to have been due to the refusal of the prison officials to take him to the National Hospital, Abuja, where he was scheduled to run a battery of medical tests.
SaharaReporters quoted prison sources to have said that the Comptroller of Prisons, Federal Capital Territory Command, Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche, received a text message from the Directorate State Security (DSS) informing him that a man that looks like Mr. Okah was sighted boarding a vehicle at Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital City.
Upon checking Okah’s cell, a note was also found from Mr.Okah, addressed to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Prisons Service.
Okah was later reported to have emerged from under the bed to chide the warders for responding promptly to news of an escape but were reluctant to take him to hospital.
