Nigerian Hip Hop sensation, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has been reported to be currently in detention at the Lagos State Command’s division of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.
The detention comes after the Nigerian artiste was reported to have honored police invitation after he was declared wanted some weeks ago in connection to an assault and robbery case involving another Nigerian singer, Mr. 2Kay.
Recall that Mr. 2Kay was reportedly assaulted at his Eko Hotels’ room following the completion of the Future Awards. According to Mr. 2Kay, the attack was planned by Burna Boy.
The embattled Nigerian singer who has in light of recent allegations postponed his concert is said to be cooling off in detention along with other suspects arrested in connection with the case.
Police had arrested four suspects including Burna Boy’s road manager, Joel Kantiok, for their alleged involvement in the assault case.
All arrested suspects were reported to have confessed to the crime except Kantiok, Burna Boy’s road manager.
A police source however revealed that the singer was still making his statement at the police station.
The source added: “He is currently in the SARS custody and he is helping the police in the investigation. For now, I can’t say categorically what his charges will be but definitely they are related to robbery for which the other suspects were arraigned.”
Another police source noted that Burna Boy might not be arraigned on Monday as earlier planned.
The police officer who is close to investigations revealed that; “His statements are still being taken and there are more revelations. We don’t want to rush to court with charges that will be struck out for lack of evidence.
“The essence of prosecution is to secure a conviction at the end of the day. That is what we want to ensure.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, however confirmed that Burna Boy will be charged to court on Monday.
