Two persons have been confirmed dead in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following the outbreak of lassa fever.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Health, Mr. Theophilus Odagme, during a press briefing in the state capital, on Tuesday.
According to him, the first person died on December 30 and the other died on January 1. They were confirmed to have been killed by lassa fever on Monday evening after series of test by health workers.
“We can confirm that two people have died in Port Harcourt. The case was being managed as an infectious disease but it was only last night at about 7.00 p.m. that we got the confirmatory report,” he said.
He said samples were collected and sent to Lagos and the results showed that these two person have lassa fever and that was the cause of their death.
