Bishop Ibenu reportedly escapes assassination by Fulani herdsmen

The Chairman of the Kogi State Christians Association of Nigeria, CAN, Bishop John Ibenu, has reportedly escaped an assassination attempt.

The cleric was reported to have been surrounded by about seven suspected Fulani men along Ojodu in Ofu local government area.

The men were reported to have rushed out upon spotting his car and opened fire on his vehicle.

Ibenu who was dumbfounded at first stated that it took him some seconds to realize the attempt on his life leading him to dive to the floor of his car.

While narrating the incident to newsmen in Lokoja, Ibenu whose car was left riddled with bullets said the incident occurred at around 5:30 pm on Sunday when he was returning from his village in the eastern part of the state.

He added that the herdsmen were on both sides of the street while they opened fire on his car. He further noted that the herdsmen were loaded with AK47 rifles adding that he only managed to escape to the nearest village by God’s grace.
