Men of the Nigerian Army belonging to the 93 battalion stationed in Takum, Taraba state have arrested nine members of an armed militia known as civilian JTF at Arufu.
The arrest was made in a boundary town between Taraba and Benue states.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday disclosing that five the suspects were armed with AK-47 rifles which were fully loaded.
The statement added: “On their arrest, a reinforcement of CJTF came to prevent troops from arresting and transporting the arrested CJTF to the Battalion Headquarters.
“When the troops stood their ground, the armed militia’s reinforcement later withdrew. The suspects confirmed that they were 60 in number in their own camp located at Gbeyi, Benue state.”
The statement further noted that investigations following the arrest revealed that the men were more than 1,000 at the camp, with over 700 of them armed.
