The Federal Prisons Service in Ebonyi State capital, Abakaliki, recorded a brutal riot and attempted prison break by inmates which lead the the loss of 5 lives today.
The prisoners were said to have revolved, attacking jail wardens and tying them up but their escape was foiled after security forces surrounded the prison and gunned down 10 inmates who tried to escape as 5 died instantly.
Confirming the incident, Ebonyi State Police Command spokesman George Okafor said:
“There was an attempted jailbreak and the prisons called in the police. We cordoned off the area and restored normalcy to the area.
“We will brief you later on the issue once everything have been sorted out.”
