According to multiple confirmable sources that spoke to Somtoo Okoye blog, youths of Umunor village in Ossissa community, Ndokwa East LGA of Delta State on Friday mounted resistance against armed Fulani herdsmen who planned to invade the community between Monday and Tuesday 1 November 2016.
The community farmers and herdsmen were said to have been engulfed in a long time hostility which has caused loss of community residents’ lives in the past. However, battle-ready youths in their dozens were on ground to foil the Monday night/Tuesday morning invasion by the herdsmen who were said to have attacked the village with bows, arrows, machetes and guns.
Confirming the incident a source at the Delta State Police Command narrated:
“We don’t know if any casualty was recorded during Monday’s incident but there was a heavy exchange of gunfire between herdsmen and community members over a failed attack on Umunor community.
“Our men have been drafted there to keep the peace.”
