Segun Enikuemehin, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), is currently battling for his life at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos State after one of his eyeballs got plucked by soldiers on Sunday 14 August 2016.
Segun reportedly came across a group of soldiers who were battering a civilian on Sunday. He intervened by pleading with the soldiers to free the man but the soldiers who wouldn’t stand the sight of a “bloody civilian” interfering with their “work” pounced on Segun, and afterwards left him and their first victim in the pool of their own blood.
Segun regained consciousness and took the man to hospital and afterwards reported the matter to Police. It was when he reported the case that he led some policemen to the location of the incident and there, they saw the soldiers whom by now were entertaining themselves with drinks at a nearby bar.
On sighting the policemen, the soldiers who couldn’t believe their eyes, pounced on Segun, plucking out his right eye which was much later picked up and brought to LUTH by a Good Samaritan – after the soldiers have finished dealing with Segun and allowed him to be taken to hospital.
Prince Ojatunwse Oluwajoba, Segun’s uncle, narrated that his right eye is now completely useless according to his hospital report. Doctors also said that the left eye might also get affected if care is not taken.
