Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has been advised by Chelsea legend Didier Drogba to leave the London club for French side Marseille.
Drogba who played for Marseille before his two fruitful stints at Chelsea urged Mikel, 29, who has not featured in any Premier League match since Italian coach Antonio Conte arrived at Chelsea this season, to sign for his former club when the transfer window opens in January.
Speaking to a RAC1 reporter on Wednesday, Drogba explained,
“Mikel will find relevance at Marseille, I told him how well I was treated during my time there and above all it will help him stay close to his family.
“Marseille are not doing badly this season and Mikel’s experience will come in handy in helping them finish the season on a high.”
Recall that Chinese football club, Shanghai SIPG, had offered Mikel a mouth-watering contract that will see the Chelsea midfielder earn the sum of $212,000 per week. The figure translates to a little above 100 million naira weekly using today’s exchange rates.
